Kwantlen University College will become Kwantlen Polytechnic University. Premier Gordon Campbell and Advanced Education Minister Murray Coell made the announcement yesterday.
What does this mean for BCIT, which until now, was BC's only polytechnic institution?

Good question...Kwantlen certainly wanted to raise their profile, and by retaining the "University" status, it will certainly mean a level of competition for the limited population of post-secondary students in BC. With local, smaller vocational schools like VCC losing enrollment numbers, it may also provide an opportunity for BCIT and/or Kwantlen to offer their resources through satellite campus partnership/incorporation.
