BCIT quietly dropped the "polytechnic" brand some time ago but we are still part of the polytechnics group of institutions in Canada. This article by Alex Usher in the Globe and Mail tries to make sense of the fuzzy concept of polytechnic education.
Usher concludes that the future of the polytechnic in Canada is uncertain:
"a lot more meat has to be put on the existing bones to make it viable, and provincial governments need to be convinced to start finding ways to accommodate a "third way" in their educational policies. "
