Emerging Practice in a Digital Age

The British learning technology organization JISC has released an interesting report, Emerging Practice in a Digital Age, that brings together 10 cases studies of emerging practice with digital technologies. The cases studies are organized into three themes:

1. Working in partnership with students
- Supporting student transition through reflective video sharing
- Engaging students as agents of change
- Students as partners in blended learning
2. Developing students' employability potential
- Developing professional practice using simulations
- Moving into virtual worlds
- Springboard TV: enhancing empolyability
- Assessment and Learning in Practice Setting
3. Preparing for the future
- Linking learning to location
- Mobile Oxford: opening access to information
- Creating a culture: a holistic approach to technology-enhanced learning

The case studies "illustrate aspects of emerging practice and show how institutions, practitioners and learners are investigating the potential affordances that new technologies can offer learning and teaching. They emphasise the importance of horizon scanning (being aware of changing circumstances and new possibilities), creating a culture of innovation that embraces change and encompasses all stakeholders, and the need to build effective communication and engagement strategies that incorporate internal and external partners. Each case study provides snapshots of journeys that will continue to develop."
