I get skeptical when I hear people talking about "seismic shifts", "tsunamis" of change and educational "game changers". Those are the terms being used to describe the latest educational technology trend (fad?), the Massively Online Open Course (MOOC). The hype surrouding MOOCs and the involvement of multi-milllion dollar corporations makes me wonder whether the MOOC concept has been hijacked and reminds me of the failed attempts by several leading US universities to create spin-off profit making online learning ventures in the early 2000s.
